Packing made of vegetable fiber impregnated with pure liquid PTFE (teflon) and treated with special inerte lubricant. This marine packing is elastic and flexible and does not rot in salt water.

Recommandations for use

1-Before installing the new braid remove the old ones, clean carefully the box and shaft.

2-Check the shaft : in case of wear of the shaft it may destroy the new braid quickly.

3-Roll up a braid lenght unit equivalent to a number af rings you want to obtain on a mandrel of same diameter of the propeller shaft.

4-Cut straight the rings parallel to the mandrel with a knife (#1).

5-Fit the rings one after the other in the stuffing box while alternating the cut by 90°.

6-After filling the stuffing box, tighten slightly the bolt with a spanner so that braid takes place.

7-Insert as many rings as you can in the stuffing box. So that the flange goes into the main housing by at list 1/2 of a braid section.

STARTING UP

1-Tighten by hand the nuts of the flange. The braid rings should limit the fluid leak but the nuts should not be over tightened, as this will cause the braids to over heat and in turn damage the propeller shaft.

2-Adjust the minimum leak and check after running making sure that the tightening pressure is regular on each bolt of the rammer : 1/8 to 1/10 per roll each time.

3-During the running in, check the temperature of the stuffing box otherwise slacken and operate again. An ideal pressure is when there is a slight drop of water when the shaft is turning and no leak when the shaft is stationary.

These recommandations are the basic ones, they give an easier installation and they make last your stuffing box life longer.
